A beautiful 1940s tarot card deck made by Ferd. Piatnik of Vienna. The deck is complete with 32 cards. The cards are all have light wear, with some light creases. The colours are bright and the printing very well done with all the cards well centered. The cards are printed on heavy stock with a semi gloss finish. The devil card is marked "Ferd. Paitnika synove, Ritter a spol".
The Prager or Bohemian pattern of the cards has origins in 16th Century Germany with influences from the William Tell designs. The suit cards have animals and scenes below including dogs, elephants and chickens. The face cards have militaristic designs. A beautiful set perfect for collection, display, and use.
Provenance: from the Caemawr estate in Wales, home of the late Sir John Harvey-Jones MBE. He served in the Royal Navy during WW2, surviving two battleship sinkings before becoming a submarine captain at age 24. He went on the serve in Naval Intelligence during the Cold War. Afterwards, he successfully ran several businesses before starring in the BBC’s ‘Troubleshooter’ series. The show won him a BAFTA and made him one of the most well known industrialists in recent history. He became chairman of The Economist in 1989.⠀⠀
