A large and very striking handcrafted solid copper Royal Engineers heraldic sign dating to the 1960s. Features the coat of arms of the Corps of Royal Engineers: The Royal Cypher within the Garter, the whole enclosed in a laurel wreath; above and resting upon the top of the Garter, a crown; below the Garter and resting upon the lower portion of the laurel wreath, a scroll inscribed "Royal Engineers".
The phrase inscribed on the garter "honi soit qui mal y pense" is featured on the formal coat of arms of Great Britain. It translates to "shame on anyone who thinks evil of it".
Provenance: From the military base of 39 Engineers Regiment in Kinloss, Scotland.
Beautiful patina from age and wear. Ready to hang.
