The History

Set within a stunning row of 19th century terraced homes designed by Sir James Gowans, 1868-70. Located on the site of the former Grindlay Estate, Castle Terrace itself was formed in 1831. The street was laid out with feuing plots on the southwest side and an embankment on the northeast side that sloped down to King's Stables Road at the foot of the Castle Rock. The embankment was laid out as gardens from the mid-to-late 19th century.

The Space

On the first floor of a traditional Category A listed terrace property within the World Heritage Site, the entrance hall leads you into an elegant living room boasting breathtaking views of Edinburgh Castle from its majestic bay windows. With its high ceilings and exquisite period details including intricate cornicing, a ceiling rose, and two Edinburgh presses it exudes a timeless sophistication. Adjoining is a compact yet thoughtfully designed bright dining kitchen comprising of white shaker style wall and floor units, oak effect worktops, metro-tiled splashback, and integrated BOSCH appliances including a stainless-steel extractor hood, gas hob, and oven. A focal point is the beautiful cornicing present, a testament to the history of the building and location. Moving through the residence, you pass a classically styled yet modern bathroom complete with a washbasin, WC, and bath with a wall-mounted shower set against wood panelling. Completing the accommodation is a magnificent double bedroom with triple sash and case windows flooding the space with light and providing a south-facing aspect over the surrounding properties and landscape. Together with an original cast iron fireplace, black marble mantle, plush carpeting, a sizeable walk-in cupboard, and a serene colour scheme it is simply stunning. Residents benefit from on-street permit parking.
