A stunning 19th century French Globe de Mariée (Marriage Dome), one of the finest examples we've seen. The original garniture is entirely intact and is surrounded by the original base and glass dome.
The bridal crown and groom's corsage of wax orange blossoms sit upon a red velvet cushion with gilt base. The central mirror represents the soul and symbolises truth. The rectangular mirrors symbolise the number of years between the couple's first meeting and their marriage, in this case four. The triangular mirrors represent the number of children the cople hoped to have, in this case two. The gilt leaves and porcelein flowers represent hope for longevity and different virtuous aspects of marriage. Above it all, it is crowned with a gold dove representing love and peace in the home.
