First Edition, in two volumes. A school prize set from Repton School, presented to E.W. Hollingworth in Upper Fifth, July 1890, by the Head Master. Repton is currently a day and boarding school, originally established in 1557. The set details every stage of the French Revolution, including details about the various aristocrats and their supporters who lost their heads.

8vo (Small). Prize binding in full polished calf with gilt borders on boards and gilt crest of Repton School to front covers. Elaborately decorated spines with gilt lettering and gilt detailing including raised bands. Gilt motif to edges of boards. Some small chips to spines and shelf wear to edges of boards. Pastedowns, flyleaves, and fore-edges marbled. Pastedown of Vol I includes school prize plate. Pages clean and bright, binding tight. Overall a beautiful set in very good condition.
