French 'Yellow Dwarf' Card Game Rules

An 1890-1910 hand-written page mounted on board laying out the rules to Nain Jaune or 'Yellow Dwarf', an old French card game. Nain Jaune is named after the seven of diamonds, which is depicted as a yellow dwarf in the centre of the game board. Nain Jaune first emerged in the mid-eighteenth century and is still a popular French family game today.
Provenance: from the Caemawr estate in Wales, home of the late Sir John Harvey-Jones MBE. He served in the Royal Navy during WW2, surviving two battleship sinkings before becoming a submarine captain at age 24. He went on the serve in Naval Intelligence during the Cold War. Afterwards, he successfully ran several businesses before starring in the BBC’s ‘Troubleshooter’ series. The show won him a BAFTA and made him one of the most well known industrialists in recent history. He became chairman of The Economist in 1989.
