A handsome early 19th century self-portrait signed by Daniel Sargent, a young man from a well-known family. His brother George Sargent became an accomplished author. The family have connections with Eythorne, Nonington, and Whitfield.
Verso is a handwritten inscription stating "Daniel Sargent. Born 1813, Died 1836. Brother of George Eliel Sargent (who was father of Sidney G.H.S.). Significant surface distress to original gilt wood frame, but still very solid. Original hanging loops. A charming little piece.
