A c.1848 oil on canvas portrait of British Navy Captain Thomas Richard Toker in giltwood frame. Several completed repairs, not noticeable from front. Biographical label and repair notes verso. The label reads:

"This portrait the property of John Buck Toree, Esq. This is the portrait of Thomas Richard Toker, born at The Oaks, Ospringe, Kent August 12th 1780. Died June 27th 1846 at Ront Terrace, Regents Park, London and buried in Ospringe church. He was in the Battle of the Nile in 1798 in the Defence 94 guns, at Boulogne under Lord Nelson, the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 in the Colossus 80 guns, at the storming of the castle of St. Elmo, in the fleet under Sir James Saumarez Bart. in the Baltic, and in other distinguished service etc. Painted by W. Allsworth, Gloucester St, Gloucester Gate, Regents Park, London 1848.”

William Allsworth (active 1836-1856) was a highly listed British artist, well-known for oil portraits. His work has been sold at Bonhams, Mallams, Boca Raton, and others. He also exhibited at The Royal Academy and The British Institute.
