A very rare and exquisitely detailed c.1800 painted armorial coach panel featuring the ancient Kyrle coat of arms and others. The armorials are incredibly intricate and decorated throughout in gold leaf. The scrolled banner at bottom reads "Nil Moror Ictus" (Never Mind the Blows). Original oil paint on wood. Ready to hang.
Sir John Kyrle and his wife are entombed at the 13th century St. Bartholomew's church in Herefordshire. On Kyrle's elaborate Italian-carved stone tomb, his feet rest upon a hedgehog bearing his motto "Nil Moror Ictus" below.
