A late 19th century deed box originally belonging to Saltley Reformatory School.
Saltley Reformatory School was launched in Birmingham in 1853 and housed 31 boys and 21 girls. Many had served hard labour in adult jails before being sent to Saltley. Treatment of the children was harsh, and the school was closed in 1939.
