A fascinating two volume set published in 1756. The Justice of the Peace and Parish Officer offers an insight into the primary crimes and punishments of the 18th century, including homicide, witchcraft, lunatics, prison-breaking, and more.
8vo. Original full calf boards, corners slightly bumped. Original spines with numbers 1 and 2 stamped respectively and raised band detailing. Rubbing wear to covers and spine as expected with age. Internal pages age toned with some foxing, otherwise clean and unmarked. Binding tight, covers stabilized on Volume 2 and could do with stabilizing on Volume 1. Overall an excellent early example of this important work, in original condition.
