A set of three vintage hand-painted heraldic shields with religious imagery, double sided. Each very heavy, made of solid iron. Some distress to paint on each, giving them a wonderful patina. Believed to date to the late 1930s. Out of a defunct church in Yorkshire, England.
Shield 1: Side 1 is a set of crossed keys over an inverted cross, Side 2 is believed to depict Joseph's coat of many colours, along with 5 smooth stones chosed by David to defeat Goliath. Measurement is 46cm / 18" x 30cm / 12"
Shield 2: Side 1 is three whales with staffs emerging from the mouths, Side 2 is the chariot of fire. Measurement is 33cm / 13" x 20cm / 8"
Shield 3: Side 1 is the lion of St. Mark, side 2 is the stock and broken chains. Measurement is 46cm / 18" x 30cm / 12".
